Operated by Fresh Student Living, a Joint venture between Macdonald Estates and Harwood Capital, the scheme comprises 232 bedrooms arranged in a mixture of cluster flats and self-contained studios.

Initially the client hadn’t given too much consideration to the design. David Phillips Contract put together a proposal with a range of different options. The client preferred the design-led option over the budget option and decided to pursue it. In addition to great design, the client wanted the furniture to be hard wearing in order to stand the test of time.

David Phillips Contract put together a trendy contemporary scheme, reminiscent of a city apartment. Fabrics used on the sofas were hard wearing and the computer chairs were composed of a durable plastic to resist wear and tear.

Testimonial

Once we opted for a design-led approach, within a week David Phillips Contract had put together a full proposal of what they were going to do. The furniture (that) was offered came with good warranties, lots of colour choices, and great prices. They also provided us with samples so we could judge the quality before making our choices.

We've had great feedback from students and other parties who have viewed our show flats; they love the designs. It's a competitive market in Glasgow so we are not expecting to be able to charge higher rents but we do feel that the designs will help us to secure more bookings and maintain higher levels of occupancy.

It's been a good experience. David Phillips Contract has provided us with different options for every product that we've asked for and we were very impressed by the initial turnaround. This is our second student scheme and we would definitely replicate this model for future projects.

We will also be looking to get David Phillips on board earlier next time so that they can put together a proposal for the fitted furniture as well. Neil Galloway, Development Manager at Macdonald Estates plc
