Halls of residence refurbishment

Owned by Bangor University and recently refurbished, this 1950s halls of residence comprises 150 rooms, which are let to the university’s postgraduate students.

As an old building many of the rooms were awkwardly shaped meaning that bespoke work was required. The bedheads had to be fitted around existing pipework and adequate storage needed to be provided in the limited space that was available. As the rooms were being let to mature students, the client requested a smarter finish. The furniture provided also had to be extremely hard wearing. PeelMount opted for contemporary furniture in cream and dark wood effect, and provided fitted wardrobes and under bed storage to maximise space.

“Due to time constraints, PeelMount had to work around the contractors who were still finishing the refurbishment, which they did without any fuss. They were very cooperative, extremely flexible and worked well around the contractors’ and our requirements. Despite not having free reign of the building, they still managed to complete the job on time and without any issues. It took them only three weeks to furnish 150 rooms. “Because the rooms were different sizes and shapes they had to make adjustments as they went along, but they seemed to cope with it well. “We had room inspections recently and the furniture is just as good as when it went in. We have had no problems at all. The students have also commented on how good the finish is. The whole process from going to tender to completion was very smooth. They bent over backwards to accommodate our needs and that has continued after, providing us with additional items that we have needed.” Lee Williams, Assistant Halls Manager at Bangor University
