Similar to the brief from the Wakefield Housing team for Church Court, we wanted to create our signuature home-from-home experience which also envoked a hotel look and feel. Whenever we get invovled in a Housing scheme the residents are always at the heart of our designs, ensuring long-lasting appeal to both prospective and existing tenants.

The majority of fabrics used were waterproof with a Martindale score in excess of 70 000 rubs and in contrast of textures and finishes – all meeting higher standards of fire safety regulations as component parts and in construction. By combining contrasting buttons and piping with varying fabric finishes, we created a stylish appearance with ‘design intelligence’ - incorporating best practice design to build in practical elements such as visually defining where furniture begins and ends against wall and floor finishes, delivering a comfortable posture when sitting through the specification of suitable seat heights, and the use of wipe clean faux leather details on chair arms to provide a better grip to aid when sitting and rising and make them easier to keep clean and smart.

The bright, fresh colours chosen by the residents deliver a contemporary environment, while feature walls and distinctive furniture at strategic points throughout the building aid wayfinding and encourage social interaction to reduce isolation, and are complimented by locally themed artwork and accessories to create a warm sense of place and induce memories. The scheme is highly adaptable and delivers the ability to flex and adapt the design over time to meet the aesthetic and practical needs of residents as circumstances change.
